Use of essay-writing services

In the last 24 hours, some staff and students have again received an unsolicited "spam" email encouraging them to visit the website of an essay-writing service.

Students are reminded that University Regulation XVIII (at makes it an offence of academic misconduct for students to submit, as their own, work which they are not responsible for authoring - this includes submitting work purchased from an essay-writing service. Offences of this nature are defined as "Major", and considered by the University's Academic Misconduct Committee, which is empowered to impose a range of penalties up to and including recommending to Senate the immediate termination of a student's registration.
